Belly laughs

Colin thinks grandma's dog is HILARIOUS!  Not sure the pup feels the same about Colin... :)

9 months old- May 2013

Observations:

  • He is pulling up to his knees all the time!
  • On May 10th, we have been back in the U.S. for a year!
  • We celebrated Mother's day with all the moms/grandmas! :) We are so lucky to live near all of them, we love you!
  • We celebrated Mother's day here with a BEAUTIFUL photo book made by Colin.  Pic is below. :)  I love my boys!
  • He is getting to be a quick crawler.  He loves to explore the kitchen and laundry rooms.
  • We put up our baby gates to keep the living room safe for baby.
  • Colin is seriously such a happy baby.  He loves to laugh and giggle!
  • He got his 2 top front teeth.
  • Mommy joined the 21st century and got an iPhone.  My other phone died and I got an iPhone from a fam member, thanks! :)
  • He is getting really good at getting from a sitting position to a crawling position.
  • It took him a while to sit gracefully from standing, but he's working on it!
  • We attended Aunt Brooke's graduation from grad school, congrats! :)
  • We took a trip to my classroom for the day to check things out.
  • We discovered that So Long (our fave restaurant) has ONE booster seat, and he sat in it pretty well!
  • He has started chewing on his crib...I went in his room and he had white paint all over his mouth. :)  We're in the market for some teething guards!
  • Mommy and daddy celebrated their 5 year anniversary!  I can't believe everything we have done in the last 5 years!

Mealtimes:

  • Colin eats about 5-7 oz. of formula about 5 times a day.
  • New foods- peaches, mango, dirt and sand at the park, cucumbers, and black beans.
  • He can feed himself pretty well.  Os are the easiest for him.

Schedule:

  • Not much has changed.  He gets up between 5am and 7am.  If he gets up before 6am, he'll usually go back down after a bottle.  He naps at about 10am and 2pm (and I REALLY mean ABOUT! :) ) for about 1-2 hours.  I would really like to have him sleep consistently until 7:30am, but with teething and an occasional cold, we just don't want to push it yet.

Size:

  • 9 month doc appt. stats- Weight- 19 lbs 5.5 oz. (31%).  Height- 28 in. (34%).  Head- 18.5 in. (82%)
  • Colin wears mostly 6-9 or 9-12 month clothing.  Some hand-me-down 12 month clothes fit just fine.

Play:

  • One of his favorite toys is a real remote we no longer use.  Why don't they make toy remotes that ACTUALLY look like remotes!?
  • He still loves to chew on Sophie.
  • He also loves to chew on/bite us, but we've noticed it's usually when he's cutting teeth.  With 4 teeth he has quite the chomp!
  • He still uses his bouncer, but not as often.
  • We have an upright toy that he can also push.  He has learned to put the balls and shapes into the openings!
  • He loves to read.  In addition to chewing on books, he now really likes to look through them (YAY!)

Nicknames:

  • Stinker bug, baby boy, angel, not really any new ones.

Mommy& Daddy:

  • We love being parents!  Colin is such a happy boy, and we can't imagine what we did before him.  We all love to watch the Royals together each night, and hope they can keep this winning up (thanks to their new hitting coach, George Brett!)
  • Zach is DAYS away from his last day of active duty Air Force.  At the end of June, he will be able to take the 20 or so days of leave he has until his actual last day, July 18.  We are looking forward to a LOT of fun family times!
  • I am still loving staying home!  Colin and I have somewhat of a routine and we love it.  We have met so many friends through the Little Apple Mommies group, and we get together with them at least weekly.  In June I will attend some curriculum workshop days at my school.  I will have July COMPLETELY free, then will start with mentor and work days in early August.
  • Enjoy the pics of Colin as a 9 month old baby!

8 months old- April 2013

Observations:

  • Colin still loves going to baby playgroups and seeing other babies.
  • I had my first night away from Colin!  I hosted Bunco at our house and didnt' want to risk Colin being woken up, so Zach took him to Grandma and Grandpa's house in Topeka for the night.  It wasn't as bad as I thought- I DID miss him like crazy...but sleeping in was nice! :)  Zach and I trade off on weekends, but there is nothing like sleeping sans monitor!
  • Colin gets to see his cousin Blazik every Sunday for dinner!
  • We were, like the rest of the country, glued to the TV during the Boston Marathon explosions and aftermath.  So incredibly sad. :(
  • Colin saw his 1st thunderstorm- and he slept right through it after!
  • He loves sucking on his 2 middle fingers- we call it his "hook em horns"
  • I was sick for the 1st time being a mother- like really sick.  Luckily he is such an easy baby, it wasn't that bad.
  • It SNOWED in April...yuck.
  • We celebrated our neighbors 2nd birthday and Aunt Traci's 21st (+19) birthday and were able to see a lot of family!
  • He can CLAP!  It's so cute!  We clap and he mimics.
  • He started crawling!  He's quick!  We, in turn, have started baby-proofing. :)
  • We lowered his crib, he's getting so big!
  • We are loving every minute of parenthood.  He is such a sweet boy and we are having so much fun with him!

Pulling up!

Mealtimes:
We've figured out a canister of formula lasts about a week, so we're spending about $80 a month on formula- can't wait to be done with that and on to milk!

He drinks 5 bottles a day, every 3ish hours.  Breakfast, brunch, lunch, snack, dinner.  Each bottle is 6-7 oz.

He has tried a few more foods! Blueberries, cantaloupe, Cheerios, yogurt, and tofu.  Yum!

Schedule:
Hasn't changed much- goes to bed around 6:30 (sometimes closer to 7), sleeps until about 5:30-6, and will go back down after a bottle.  1 morning nap that lasts about an hour, and 1 afternoon nap that lasts about 1.5-2 hours.

Size: Doc appt. next month! :)

Play:
Colin still loves his jumper (yay!) and puts EVERYTHING in his mouth.  Sophie is still a fave, and so are his toy baskets- he loves to dump them.

Nicknames:
Baby boy & stinker bug are the ones we use the most. :)

Mommy& Daddy:
I got a job!  I will be teaching 2nd grade in Wamego, KS (about 15 min. from our house, east of Manhattan!) I am really excited, although leaving Colin is bittersweet.  Luckily my mom will watch Colin!

Zach enrolled at K-State.  We were lucky enough to go to enrollment on the 1 day is SNOWED in April. :)  We luckily got MOST of his classes scheduled for MWF, so my mom will drive up those days.  He's looking forward to being a full time college student!

March 2013- 7 months old!

Observations:
~ On his 7 month birthday, I put away all the 3-6 month clothing.

~ We went to Salina to visit Leah, Iz, and new Baby Lillian!

~ He sat in the front of the grocery cart for the first time!  It took a while to get the cart cover figured out, and to get him in it, but he loved it!  Now he tries to grab my list as I'm pushing him around the store, he loves the crinkle sound!

~ We had our 2nd "6 month" photo shoot.

~ Colin helped daddy build a raised garden in the back yard!  We hope to plant tomatoes, carrots, peas, spinach, and butternut squash!

~ We switched to the next level of bottle nipple- now he can finish a bottle in a flash!

~ He now wears Huggies Overnight diapers at night, and we don't have leaks.

~ 1st day of spring!

~ He is talking like crazy!  "Da da da da" is what we hear all day! :)

~ When put on his hands and knees, he rocks a bit.  I think he'll be crawling in a month or so!

~ He loves the "ABC's".  If he's fussy, and I sing it to him, he usually brightens up!

~ We also put away his swing!  He could have technically stayed in it until 25 lbs, but we just didn't use it much anymore, and it takes up quite a bit of room.

~ Opa visited for Easter weekend, and Uber Opa, Great Aunts Lori and Traci, and cousin Blazik visited too!

~ He has been "waving".  Opening and closing his fists, and it looks like he's waving.  :)

Mealtimes:
Colin has tried a few more foods, in addition to the ones he's already tried- carrots, pears, and peas- yum!  Right now he just eats a little bit (about the size of an ice cube), so it doesn't take place of the formula.

He eats about 6-8 ounces of formula every 3 hours during the day (about 5 bottles).

Schedule:
His bedtime continues to be about 6:30 pm and he'll usually sleep until between 5:00am and 5:45, eat, then go back to sleep for a few more hours.  Once he wakes up, we play, eat, he jumps in his jumper, and he'll usually nap about 2 hours after he woke up.  His morning nap is about an hour.  Sometimes we go to a playgroup to story time at the library.   His afternoon nap is about 3 hours after he woke up from his morning nap, and usually lasts about an hour and a half- 2 hours.

Size:

Weight:  About 19 pounds we think...   Length:  about 28 inches  Head: About 18 inches

Play:
He loves sitting up, and has even lunged forward a few times and ended up on his belly from a sitting position!  He can roll everywhere!  He loves reading (AKA chewing on books) and playing with all the toys in his baskets.  He still enjoys Peek-a-Boo, and loves anything that's a song!

Nicknames:
When my dad was visiting, Colin wouldn't "respond" to Colin, but when my dad said Stinker Bug, he whipped his little head toward him! :)

Mommy& Daddy:
I have been fine-tuning my teaching applications, and look forward to interviews soon!

Zach is counting down the days to military separation and college student life!
