7th Week

Some observations and milestones from his 7th week of life!

~We keep a bib on Colin at all times, it's easier than always changing his outfit! :)

~I found a SNAKE in/on his Baby Einstein Play Gym!  We'd kept it behind his swing.  I got it out to do tummy time, and there was a small snake in there!  It didn't slither away, so after I almost screamed, I put Colin in his swing, picked up the play gym, and threw it outside!  When Zach got home, the snake was still in there, so he just tossed it (the snake) over the fence.  Ew!

~First bath where Colin didn't scream/cry the whole time!  I saw on my friend Lauren's blog that they put a towel in the bathtub, so we tried it.  He liked it!  He does get cold when we take him out, but other than that tear free!

~He ate 6 oz. at one feeding!  He'd been eating about 4 oz. when we'd feed him formula or pumped milk in a bottle.  Now he's getting about half and half breast milk and formula.  I'll nurse him for 20 min. on each side (the lactation specialist recommended this, b/c he was eating for over an hour and was STILL rooting/showing hunger signs after!) then if he is still showing hunger signs we'd top him off with a bottle.  I still haven't given up on breastfeeding!  The pain is gone, and now we're working on weaning from the shield.

~He sleeps IN HIS BED NOW!!! :)  He loves it, and when we put him in there he plays for a bit and talks to himself before falling asleep.  So precious!  We love our video monitor so we can keep eyes and ears on him at all times.

~Colin will fall asleep around 9 after his final feeding and some reading, rocking and singing by mom and dad.  He sleeps until around 4:30am, and will eat 4-6 oz. at that time.  Then our day usually starts when he wakes up at 7:30 am again to eat.

~Grandma Janice and Grandpa Rick came on Saturday to watch KU lose and K-State win!

~Grandma Sarah and Kent came on Sunday to cheer the Chiefs on to their first win of the season, and of baby's life!

~He has a few nicknames- we call him baby a lot!  Others include stinker, wiggle worm, and baby boy.

~Our swing is great!  He loves it and is in it quite a bit (when I'm not cuddling with him of course!)  It helps when I need to do the dishes or want to check my email.  He loves looking up b/c there's a mirror, and it has music too!

~We like to go on long walks.  After, I'll keep him in his carseat and put it next to the tub so I can take a shower.  I think he likes the sound of the water. :)

~He is starting to look directly in our eyes more and more.

~His tight little fists should start being more open (then maybe we can FINALLY get his handprints for his baby book :) )

This is our conversation of how we made the BIG decision (well, big for us!) to put the baby in his crib for the night...

Zach- "So how ready are you to put Colin in his crib at night?"

Me- "Oh, pretty ready!" (lie, total lie)

Zach- "Wanna try it tonight?"

Me- "WHAT!!!???  Um...ok!"

No research, no reading, just did it! :) I think that helped us not obsess about it...

Baby did so well!  I cried looking at him in his crib, and Zach checked on him 3 times throughout the night.  Not to mention the video monitor that was 3 in. from my face the entire night. :)  Colin likes it, and we're getting in a routine!

Tiny little feet, just wanna eat them!

Happy baby at bed time!

So sweet...

In his crib for the first time!

Go Cats!

Go Chiefs!

Love him!!!

Week 6

~He loves to, as we say, "frog" his little legs up.  He does it when he's sleeping on our chests, and when he's getting his diaper changed!

~When he's sleeping, he almost always folds his tiny little hands- so proper!

~Went back to the lactation specialist for a weigh in- 9 lbs 14 oz!

~We went out this week- to the library, Target, grocery store, and Hobby Lobby- and he was such a good boy!

~We have finished all of the newborn diapers, and are using size 1 now.  They are big but no leaks yet!

~He's in 0-3 month onuses, and some 3 month clothing.  I washed all of his 3-6 month clothing this week.

~He wears a bib at all times- we got tired of changing him every time he spit up! :)

~We tried (and loved) the Moby wrap!

~We went to our 2nd KU tailgate.  We had to park a few blocks away, and I was hands-free with the Moby wrap.  That thing is amazing!

~We went to the Toddler Fair at the public library.  We signed up for a mom's group, Little Apple Mommies.  Hopefully we'll meet some new baby friends through the group!

~We received Colin's birth announcement in the mail and we sent them out this week!

~Colin finally peed on daddy while he was being changed!

~Zach's work had a bowling day, so we hung out while daddy bowled with a few kids (using bumpers!)

~We visited Lawrence for Gma Marcia and Gma Janice's birthdays.

~I seem to do laundry every day!  It does help it not pile up.  We need to buy some more burp cloths.

~Zach is doing a great job!  He had no training, but is making fatherhood look easy!  Colin loves his daddy time.  I don't know what I would do without him!

5th Week

~Went to the lactation specialist on Thursday.  You ate really well, and got about 4 oz. in 40 minutes.  You weigh about 9 lb. 8 oz!

~Grandma Marcia had her knee replacement surgery.  Soon you both will be running around!

~Colin had a tiny scratch under his right eye.  We think we're going to have to clip his fingernails soon...

~NFL Season and KU football season start, we watched the Democratic National Convention, and your first Chiefs game!

~I had to give Colin a bath by myself this week.  He spit up all his milk.   As usual, he cried the whole time. :)

~I drove for the first time by myself with baby.  I only pulled over 3 times to sooth him on the way home! :)

~You smiled!  And I don't think it was a gassy smile, but a real one!  Nice and toothless.

~We had our first blowout in the swing.  Thank goodness the part he pooped on could be removed and washed easily!

~Nursing is going better!  I am still using the shield, but it's no longer painful.  It was suggested that I get Newman's Nipple Cream (a prescription), and it's helping.  The only problem, he eats for over an hour, and still needs to be topped off with a bottle after.  A work in progress! :)

Game day!

1st tailgate in Lawrence

Thanks for the Royals outfit, Opa Alroy!

So cute in the Baby Bjorn!

He's not thrilled...

Diaper change in the trunk!

Week # 4

We have a one month old baby!

~Poor baby, you still have blocked tear ducts and have eye crusties. :(  I heard to put breast milk on them, and it seems to help!

~You are using your hands more!  You "hold" the pacifier to your mouth with your fist, and try to hold the bottle when we feed you.  It's like you're afraid we'll take it away for good!

~Nursing didn't hurt this week!  I am still using the shield.  I accidentally vacuumed it up this week, so we need to get a new one.  Still pumping and supplementing with formula.

~We went out to dinner 3 times this week, with Colin!  He did well, slept most of the time and only got fussy toward the end when he was hungry.

~We've been doing tummy time everyday.  Either on us, or on the baby Einstein mat.  He loves it!  He uses his legs to push up, and his little turtle face comes out when he does his "push ups". :)  He is so strong!

~Colin sleeps a lot, but when he is awake he is alert!  His beautiful eyes are open and just look all around, and at us.

~He holds our gaze longer now, looking at us and other things.  His eyes are still very dark.

~There is a lot of grunting and squeaking coming from the basinet at night!

~Our friends Katie and Travis, and Kelsy and John came to visit Colin this weekend.

~College football season started!  Daddy went to the KU game on Saturday, and grandma Marcia came to visit.  Colin and I will go to Lawrence to tailgate next weekend.

~This week was the first of a few projectile spit-ups, mostly on daddy!

~On Friday we both rode in the front seat of the car, and he cried. :(  I spent most of the time twisting back trying to put his pacifier in his mouth!

~This weekend, I slept on my tummy for the first time in about 10 months!  I was really excited about this. :)

~Our next baby dr. appointment is at 2 months old, and I go in for my postpartum visit when he is 6 weeks.

~Newborn clothes are getting a bit snug (most of them) and we're still using the last of our newborn diapers.

~Everyday I write a little something in a weekly calendar.  Something special Colin did, something we did as a family, something we noticed.  I hope to do this for 1 year!  A few people gave me this idea, and I really wanted to do it! :)

My daily calendar, where I write something for Colin everyday!

"I represent, the lollipop guild!" (Wizard of Oz, for those who are confused :) )

Sleepy boys...

Grandma time!

Katie, a friend from college, came by to visit!

Kelsy, a teacher friend, and her husband John, spent Sunday with us!
